5 classic horror movies to watch this Halloween

Whether you need to destress after a long day at uni, or bond with your flatmates, or need something scary to snuggle up to with your latest crush, these are the best horror movies to get you in the Halloween mood.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Everyone has heard about Freddy Krueger, but have you actually watched the original? It’s well worth the watch, and there is even a young Johnny Depp giving an early career appearance.

With it being the 40th Anniversary of the movie franchise and the new movie advertised all over the place, take yourself right back to the start with the original 1978 ‘Halloween’.

Friday the 13th

Much like Freddy, you have probably heard about Jason Voorhees, especially since they’ve appeared in a movie together. But rather than a young Johnny Depp in this one, you’ll find a young Kevin Bacon.

The Exorcist

Linda Blair takes on the role of a foul-mouthed possessed teenager. She did such a good job that this movie was deemed one of the scariest of all time and supposedly caused fainting, vomiting and heart attacks when released in cinemas.

The Nightmare before Christmas

Okay, so this one might not be a typical Halloween classic, but with Christmas just around the corner, this is the perfect Disney classic to transition you from pumpkins and ghosts to presents and good old Saint Nick.
