Is it just me, or are this year’s Love Island contestants dry af?
Love Island 2019 kicks off tonight, and if ITV’s teaser trailer https://twitter.com/LoveIsland/status/1133108183361302528?s=20 showcasing some of this year’s contestants is anything to go by, let’s just say the line up so far is pretty dry.
The poses and awkward dance moves are just enough to make you think you’re watching an 18-30s holiday promotional video when, in reality, these are some of the faces we’ll get used to (and sick of) after Love Island returns.
On first impressions, there isn’t really anyone who stands out for me (even if they’ve included a minor celebrity, who finds a way to drop their celeb connection into their VT… obviously) and, with a surfer, an air hostess and a gym owner in the line up, it all seems a bit like Love Island 2018.
Even though most of the islanders used the word ‘fun’ to describe themselves, they couldn’t seem any less fun as they awkwardly laugh into the camera.
Ok, so I’m being a little bit harsh here. The initial VT is all about carefully chosen questions and edited responses and (I can imagine) it would be hard to fit your whole personality into such a short video. I might be disappointed with the line-up thanks to their initial introduction, but it’ll be interesting to see how their personalities (if they actually have them) unfold and develop when they’re in the villa.
