The Cardiff bucket list for students.

There’s so much to do in every city and none so more than the Welsh capital itself.

Whether you’re already studying in Cardiff or will be next term, having a bucket list is a good way to ensure that you get round to doing all that the city has to offer.

Here’s everything that every Cardiff Uni student should do at least once in their time at Cardiff.

Go to a rugby game at the Millennium Stadium.

The tickets are like gold dust but make sure that you go to a rugby match during your three years at Cardiff. Watching a rugby match in the stadium is an experience of a lifetime, even if you’re not particularly keen on rugby. The atmosphere in the stadium is hard to beat, and you will find yourself talking about the match for days afterwards.

Stay in Live Lounge until the early hours.

Live Lounge is just the classic club to go to in Cardiff and with free entry, incredibly cheap drinks and live music, you can see why it’s one of Cardiff’s fondest music and club venues. Whether you’re going there for a full night out, or only heading there for a bit because you want the free entry and the other clubs are empty, you’re always guaranteed an interesting (and cheap) night.

Try every cocktail in Wetherspoons.

This was a challenge which my friends and I set ourselves, but unfortunately, we never completed it. With 2 pitches for £12 and flavours from Woo Woos' to Porn Star Martini, it would be rude not to give the challenge a go. There are several Wetherspoons in Cardiff anyway, so there’s no excuse - round up your friends then head to your nearest Spoons!

Go to Winter Wonderland.

Winter Wonderland comes to Cardiff once a year around Christmas and takes place outside City Hall. Offering a fun seasonal selection of funfair rides and stalls, it also boasts a Ferris wheel so you can experience phenomenal views of the city from high in the air. If rides aren’t your thing, you can enjoy mulled wine inside the cosy huts with your friends. It’ll almost feel like you’re in Lapland.

Go to Varsity at least once.

If you only do one thing during your time in Cardiff, make sure that that one thing is Varsity. Once a year, Cardiff battles it out with its rival Swansea in a series of competitive sports, finished off with a huge game of rugby. The day is incredibly fun, filled with drinking and watching sports with your friends and is typically followed by a night out in your home city.

Visit Cardiff Castle.

It would be a shame to spend your 3 years in Cardiff and never go to the castle, and it's one of those places that you must tick off your Cardiff bucket list. One of the city’s famous landmarks, it’s beautiful, steeped in Welsh history and perfect if you want to learn more about the city of Cardiff. If you live or work in Cardiff, you can sign up for a castle key for just £6, which gives you free entry to the castle for the next 3 years.

Go for a picnic in Bute Park with prosecco and ice cream.

Cardiff has some incredible parks which are perfect to visit when the sun is shining, but Bute Park is especially good for picnics with friends. You can choose from an array of stunning spots overlooking the river or the castle, and coupled with prosecco and your favourite ice cream, it’s the perfect way to soak up the city’s beauty and celebrate with friends.
