I bet you didn’t know that Cardiff students have these perks.
As students, we already have a huge selection of bonuses at our fingertips, including student discounts, NUS cards and student bank accounts.
As a Cardiff Uni student, you can access even more perks and freebies on top of this. Read on to find out more.
A free Cardiff Castle key
If you haven’t been already, make sure that you visit Cardiff Castle - it’s beautiful and the perfect place to visit if you want to learn more about Welsh history and the beautiful city of Cardiff. If you live or work in Cardiff, you can sign up to a castle key for just £6 which gives you free entry to the castle for the next 3 years. Students are eligible for this benefit, so it’s worth getting it if you think that you’ll be a regular visitor. Just head to the Cardiff Castle ticket office with proof that you’re living at a Cardiff Address. To find out more, check out their website.
Free Microsoft Office 365
For all enrolled Cardiff Uni students, you’re entitled to free Microsoft Office 365 on up to five devices. My friends and I were sadly not aware of this at the time, so it’s worth spreading the word to others about this perk. This subscription remains valid as long as you’re a student at Cardiff Uni, so make the most of it while you can.
Rewards and discounts at the SU
Fairly recently, Cardiff Uni launched a new app called Yoyo Wallet. It’s available to download on both Apple and Android phones and can be used at a variety of SU shops and services including Starbucks, Snack Shack, The Pantry, The Taf, Toss'd and Wok 'n' Roll. Present it for special offers, vouchers, discounts, loyalty points and much more. You can also pay on the app instead of using cash and cards.
A vast array of all-you-can-eat buffets
Cardiff is no stranger to good food, especially when there are unlimited amounts of it. For its size, Cardiff boasts a huge amount of all-you-can-eat buffets which work out as amazing value for money. These places include Red Hot World Buffet, Fed, Spice Route, Oriental Garden, JRC Global Buffet and the fantastic all-you-can-eat Brazilian restaurant Viva Brazil. With these cheap prices, plus the Freshers Fair often giving away free buffet meals and huge discounts at places such as Fed, it really is a benefit of being a student in Cardiff.
The Student lock-in night
Every year, St David’s shopping centre in the heart of Cardiff hosts a student lock-in. Offering freebies (including free food), impressive discounts at up to 40% off and exclusive offers just for students, you’d be mad to miss it. There’s one taking place this month on Tuesday, October 10, and it’s set to be the UK’s largest shopping event. All you have to do is pre-register on their website and then collect your wristband on the night.
A dose of culture
The Sherman Theatre on Senghennydd Road creates and puts on brilliant theatre productions that are well worth seeing. Producing some of the best contemporary theatre around, it offers something a little different and is just a stone’s throw away from the majority of student accommodation. If you’re under 25, you can often pick up a ticket for half price which is a great deal considering how good the performances are.
