The Pomegranate, Cardiff

Review.

Tucked away in Park Place near Cardiff University, The Pomegranate Café is the perfect place for students to go for a sophisticated drink or a slice of homemade cake amongst other options.

An independent jazz café with its own bar, The Pomegranate hasn’t been around in Cardiff for long but has already made quite an impact with students and locals alike.

The Pomegranate like “doing the simple stuff really well.” Indeed, this quirky little café is beautifully simple with its straightforward yet well-presented variety of food and drink. Their hot chocolate certainly beats what you get in high street coffee chains.

Offering a delicious selection of sandwiches, salads, cakes and drinks including some rather tasty cocktails, The Pomegranate certainly impresses with its stunning décor – including a grand piano and art deco style paintings – and has an all-around artistic feel thanks to the quirky, soft jazz vibe.

The Pomegranate is great for a drink and a chat, but looking around the interior with its calming music and design, I imagine it is the ideal place to do some university work or relax in between lectures, especially as it's so close to the university.

In the evening, it turns into more of a bar later and serves some lovely cocktails, spirits and wines. It would be an ideal and sophisticated place to go before a night out, and its lovely interior means that you can take some great photographs.

It may not be as well-known as similar establishments in the area such as Hoffi Coffi, but this only means that you can beat the crowds, not have to wait in a ridiculous queue and still enjoy food and beverages that are just as good.
