Botanical brunching in Brighton: Redroaster Coffee Co.

It's not every day that spontaneity strikes lucky, so when I led the girls into Redroaster Coffee Co - eyes widening in approval and stomachs grumbling in agreement - I knew we'd hit the jackpot.

Café by day, restaurant by night, this modern and luxurious space presents a tranquil escape from the crowded streets of Kemptown. The business takes pride in ethically supporting the Rwandan farmers who supply the coffee beans, going above and beyond Fairtrade agreements to ensure the finest quality produce.

For all the chocolate-lovers, why not try the Nutella mochaccino? Can't decide between sweet or savoury? Then opt for the herbed waffle - lavishly coated with bacon jam, topped with maple-streaked bacon, and a fried egg. The apple garnish might unsettle your faith in the dish, but the culinary fervour of Matt Gillan rewards the palate with surprising flavours.

Now, you might expect such a fancy eatery to be far out of price range for the student demographic. I bring good news. Redroaster offers an affordable day menu that ranges from £5 - £13.

And did I mention that breakfast is available all day?

Since discovering this little gem, I have pledged to seek within its marbled-corners, a shelter from all 'adult' responsibilities (and all else related to the adult world in general). But the true English-lit student in me would perceive a different story, the epitome of the parental cliché - a solo diner embracing the rare opportunity of a concept unbeknown to campus residents (I'm talking about the sweet bliss of privacy).
