5 vegan eateries in London you have to try

One food trend that has really blown up this year is veganism. Whether you’re doing it for the animals, your health or for environmental reasons, it’s well worth testing this lifestyle out. In London, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes that cater to vegans – some even offer only vegan options. End 2017 by trying it out – it’s not all veggies and grains! Here are our top picks…

Veg Bar

It bills itself as ‘London’s first 100% vegan restaurant, bar and late-night vegan speakeasy’, but the chances are it’s also the only one. The menu has a ton of variety – seitan wings, grilled “cheese” toasties, polenta veg stacks, salads, soups and more, but the real showstopper is the FGV burger. Paying homage to London food blogger, Fat Gay Vegan, the burger is made up of two meat-free patties, sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, all sandwiched between a sesame bun – and, of course, it’s all vegan.

Indian Veg

Strapped for cash? This is the place for you. For £4.50, you can eat as much as you want – and it’s all vegan (bar one paneer curry that is served on Wednesdays and Fridays). It’s canteen style, so very casual, and surrounded by posters of Bollywood stars and motivational slogans – like ‘vegetarians keep it up longer’. You can also get yourself an Indian beer or organic cola drink.

From tofu burgers to seitan stroganoff, you’re pretty much guaranteed a good filling up here. There are enough fresh ingredients to run an allotment, so you can be sure you’re scoring some serious health points, too. The desserts are great, with tofu cheesecakes, vegan ice-cream and raw chocolate tortes – yum! There’s also an all-you-can-eat lunchtime buffet too, so head down there early if you want to save some £s.

Enjoying a spot of shopping on Primrose Hill? Why not pop into Manna for a bite? The vegetarian restaurant has been serving up health-conscious treats for nearly 50 years, and the vegan menu reflects its popularity, with a range of great dishes. Variety is the flavour of the day at Manna, where you’ll have to choose between Jamaican pot stew, an enchilada bake, “bangers” and mash, rainbow Panzanella, pastas, and more. The dessert menu is just as popping, with sticky toffee pudding, “vice” cream, cheesecakes and more to tempt you.

Black Cat Café

If you’re in Hackney, this is the place to hit up for some vegan indulgence. Proving you don’t have to be a health freak to go vegan, you can enjoy dirty burgers, sweet potato fries, soy milkshakes and cakes. The café also offers vegan ingredients so you can go home and recreate your fave dishes. It’s very bohemian here, so don’t worry about dressing up – just come with an empty stomach!

76 Clarence Road, Hackney, E5 8HB.
