The purpose of this study is to investigate students' attitudes and any surrounding stigmas that students may face when considering seeking professional help such as counselling. The study aims to identify the justification for education based counselling by conducting research into students attitudes by using interview questions adapted from Attitudes Towards Seeking Professional Psychological Help -SF scale ,Perceived Public Stigma Scale & Self Stigma scale.
Using a qualitative study of the BAPS Scale allows the researcher to gather more specific and individualistic explanations of stigmas that students may face. The study will involve semi-structured interviews lasting approximately 30 to 60 minutes which will be recorded and transcripts of each participant will be formed. The BAPS 3 sub scale (Intent, Stigma Tolerance and Expertness) will be used to score each participants results. The total score will measure the students’ attitudes and beliefs as well as their willingness to seek professional help.
