Serena Smith 2.20
A foolproof rating of Leeds' beer gardens
Perfectly positioned to catch the sun’s rays, Belgrave has so much character, whether you’re inside or out. The rooftop garden, featuring cosy seating and hanging baskets, is oh-so-Instagrammable – so much so that it makes up for the pricey drinks. With Dough Boys and Patty Smith’s there’s oodles of fun food to choose from should you get peckish, but otherwise Belgrave is the perfect place to kick back and relax with nothing but a pint.

Headrow House’s rooftop gardens offer you amazing views of Leeds, and with two stories to choose from you can venture up to ‘Kennedy Meadows’ on the second tier if you so desire. Ample seating space, its very own bar, and mini-kitchen: it’s hard to go wrong with Headrow House. A little on the pricier side, you’ll have to decide whether the ambience is worth the steep price list, but I think you’ll find it’s 100% worth forking over the extra few quid. Your Instagram will be popping after a trip to Headrow House, whether you choose to 'gram a cute selfie or a rooftop view.

Brudenell Social Club
If you’re living in Hyde Park, this beauty is going to be right up your street – literally. Guaranteed to be about a ten-minute walk max from wherever you are in Hyde Park, The Brudenell Social Club is an intimate little set up with tons of that famous Leeds edge. A staple for any Leeds Uni student, you’re guaranteed to bump into all your friends here once the sun comes out and everyone’s busy cracking open cold ones.
Brudenell Social Club, 33 Queen's Rd, Leeds, LS6 1NY.
Nation of Shopkeepers
A relatively low-key place, Nation of Shopkeepers has oodles of character. If neon signs are your thing, there’s a few here for you to keep your Instagram followers happy. Prices are a bit friendlier than the likes of Headrow House, too, so you can relax about that. With cute décor and an intimate beer garden, Nation of Shopkeepers is seriously underrated.
Nation of Shopkeepers, 26-27 Cookridge St, Leeds, LS2 3AG.
Stew and Oyster: Call’s Landing
The kind of place you’d take your parents, Call’s Landing is a bit of a way out and serves up oysters. Yep, oysters. But they also do drinks, and with a beautiful view of the river, I’m sure you can put up with the extremely ‘grown-up’ vibes. Maybe you’ll even like those vibes. The prices aren’t as steep as you’d expect, either, so that’s another plus. And, of course, most importantly: a trip down here will seriously boost your Instagram aesthetic.
