Kesha’s moving performance at the Grammy’s, the Women’s Marches in London and Washington, jumpers with #Femme plastered on the front: let’s face it, Girl Power is everywhere and, considering we recently celebrated 100 years since women gained the right to vote, so it should be. Love it or hate it, Instagram boasts plenty of inspiring, hilarious, and powerful women sharing snapshots of their lives.

Here are five women you should be following on Instagram right now:

The body positive account: @Bodyposipanda

I first discovered Megan Jayne Crabbe, a.k.a @Bodyposipanda, when I was feeling low about my own body image.

Having struggled with anorexia for most of her teens, Megan discovered the body-positive movement (or ‘bopo’ for short) during her recovery and since then has been inspiring girls and guys everywhere to love their bodies.

Her Instagram is filled with inspiring throwback pictures, uplifting quotes, and links to other body positive Instagrammers.

The mental-health and self-love account: @rubyetc

I became aware of Ruby Elliot, better known as @rubyetc when an image of her character (an awkward line-drawn figure) crying for no reason crept up on my feed.

After being hospitalised at 14 due to an eating disorder, struggling with depression and later being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she uses drawings to combat these issues and show people that life is complicated, but you can get through it.

Her Instagram is filled with various drawings, as well as links to her online store and snippets from her book, It’s All Absolutely Fine: Life Is Complicated, So I’ve Drawn It Instead.

The activist account: @pinkprotest

Amika George came to my attention after Tyro's Sub-Editor interviewed her back in November.

In April 2017, the 18 year old began the #FreePeriods campaign to request that the government combat period poverty. But, what makes her even more inspiring is that she did all this while studying for her A-Levels at school in North London (which is amazing considering most of us students struggle to get up for a 9 am lecture!).

Her Instagram is filled with snapshots of rallies, empowering quotes, and interviews with inspirational activists and campaigners.

The LGBT account: @julianahuxtable

Juliana Huxtable wasn’t an Instagrammer I was familiar with, but, when I looked through her profile, I was amazed by what I found.

Juliana was born intersex and often discusses her long and difficult journey with gender identity, having begun her medical transition after graduating college, in a fun and vibrant way.

Her Instagram is filled with art, photography and her experiences as a DJ.

The foodie account: @topwithcinnamon

As a bit of a ‘foodie’ myself, I’m constantly trawling social media for new recipes and meal inspiration, so it was only a matter of time before I discovered Izy Hossack’s account.

The 21-year-old student from London, who studies Food Science and Nutrition at Leeds, can be found constantly baking and making new tasty and cheap recipes - something which is music to a student’s ears!

Her Instagram is filled with drool-worthy snaps of her bakes and recipes, plus snapshots of her books The Savvy Cook and Top With Cinnamon.
