Events on International Women’s Day in Newcastle
International Women’s Day is an annual celebration of the achievements of women in every way: political, social, economic and cultural achievements. This day is a global event which started in 1911 with the Suffragettes holding the first event. If you want to spend your day celebrating and appreciating your fellow females, here are a few things you can do in Newcastle:
A Panel of Leading Ladies in STEAM.
The Tech for Life team invites you to join them in celebrating the North East’s Leading Ladies in STEAM (STEM + ARTS = STEAM). They will be giving insights into their career journeys, challenges and experiences.
This is an important event as statistically women are underrepresented in core STEM subjects/occupations. Did you know, in 2016 only 25% of those who graduated from a UK University STEM degree were women? And in 2017 only 23% of those working in core STEM occupations were women? This event will be celebrating the achievements of these women as they make progress in the STEM industry. It is open to people of all ages, but if you’re under 16, you’ll need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. It is a free event - just sign up on the page linked, so they know how many people to expect.
