The best pub Christmas dinners in Newcastle for if you cba to cook one as a flat
Flat Christmas dinners are a student tradition, but one that takes up a lot of energy and time and cooking expertise that none of us really have. Going out for your turkey and stuffing might be a slightly better option, and Newcastle has a lot to offer on that front.
Whether you’re into a classier Christmas dinner, or just want proper grub in a proper pub, this list has got you and your housemates covered.
Browns’ festive menu is guaranteed to be tasty for meat-eaters, vegans and vegetarians alike. Three Christmassy courses for £24.95 seems reasonable for fancy food in a relaxed bar/restaurant, but beware it's only available Monday to Wednesday from 12 - 6 pm, meaning it’s likely to get busy, so booking is essential.

Far on the fancier side, Malmaison offers three courses for £24.95 and 2 for just under 20 quid. Plus, if you pre-pay, you can get a free drink on arrival; wine, beer, or a soft drink if you’re nursing a hangover. Their festive menu is available now throughout December, until 7 pm every day, bar Sundays.

As You Like It
For As You Like It, you don’t even need to venture into Newcastle City Centre - by sticking to Jesmond you can avoid the cold and the decision to fork out for taxis. Veggie and gluten-free options are available, but it’s important to pick the right time to go. For lunch on 4th - 6th December they offer the lowest price of their Christmas dinner at £19.95, but the closer it gets to crimbo, the more expensive it becomes. Going for dinner rather than lunch is more expensive, and weekends see prices up to £45 a head. So, yeah, book early.

Blackfriars is definitely the most expensive option, with £28 lunch and £33 dinner. Add on pricey drinks and this option may require the sacrifice of a night out (or a week’s food). The upsides though include double fancy dining, vegan and vegetarian options, and by far the most choice between meals. Eating pasta for breakfast, lunch and dinner all week will be worth it. Maybe.

Hudson hosts the nicest of interiors, so consider your Instagram blessed. It's also possible to have your Christmas dinner here for just £14.95, but it’s not clear which items on the menu this particular price aligns to. The best bit though is the extra entertainment. Live music takes place on Fridays and Saturdays, and widescreens sit near the bar, so make sure you convince your flatmates to go during the best December games.
Where: Neville Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5DF
A proper pub. A guaranteed perfectly pulled pint. Both worth the modest price of £18.99 for three courses. These, combined with a rustic feel and vegetarian options make this Christmas dinner the best value in my opinion.
Where: 137 Percy Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7RY
The Forth sits near Central Station, with a relaxed atmosphere, log fire, and cosy dark interior which will get you feeling festive. Three courses for £21.95 also places it on the cheaper side, and with veggie and vegan choices, it is definitely one to consider.
Where: Pink Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5DW
