The best end of term events in Birmingham

61806

After the mania of the first term and those last minute all-night essay sessions, I’m sure we could do with blowing off some steam, and what better way than by doing what we students do best: having a night out! This is a round-up of the end of term events going in Birmingham which will hopefully appease those desperate sesh-demons within us who need to be freed.

ACM Birmingham Student Christmas Party – Tuesday 5th December

The Academy of Contemporary Music BA students are hosting a night of hip-hop, indie and world music at a venue that has a lot going for it, The Hare and Hounds. With a Christmas theme and a prize for the worst-dressed, if you aren’t feeling like the chaos of a usual club night, then this will be well-worth checking out. The Hare and Hounds opens its doors to all kinds of music, with live performances, dub/reggae and various sub-genres of EDM incorporated into their intimate and diverse venue, but if the ACM is getting involved with this then it’s not one to miss! Tickets are only £4 in advance and £5 on the door, so it’s much friendlier on a budget.

Where: The Hare and Hounds, 106 High St, Birmingham B14 7JZ

Ouse Presents: Merry Tripmas – Friday 8th December

Ouse will never disappoint, and a Christmas-themed trippy homage to partying is going to happen! Disco, drum and bass, house and jungle music will not only get you in the mood to celebrate the end of term but also the start of the Christmas holidays; if you’re a hardcore sesher, this one’s for you!

Where: Boxxed, 104-108 Floodgate St, Birmingham B5 5SR

Black Parade: 00s Emo Anthems – Friday 8th December

Alternatively, on the 8th, if you’re not so much into your EDM and are still deeply in touch with your inner emo, then head to the O2 Institute in Digbeth in your skinny jeans and rock on. At £4.40, even if it’s for nostalgia’s sake, you might be able to release all that stress through the emotional nihilism that we all love in those noughties rock tunes.

Where: O2 Institute, 78 Digbeth, Birmingham B5 6DY

Foreverland Comes to Birmingham at 119 – Saturday 9th December

Digbeth has always hosted some of the most vibrant and bizarre nights going for those who really want a mad one, and this event looks like the pinnacle of madness in the form of heavy bass music. They list the event as a “magical touring circus” and invite you to join them on a “journey through music, time and space as we discover a new realm of the surreal”. A bold claim, I know, but don’t you want to find out? The tickets for this one aren’t the cheapest, currently standing at £15.65 on third release, going up to £18.40 in the final release, but if you still have some extra dough lying around then be sure to check it out.

Where? 119 Digbeth, Floodgate Street, Birmingham B5 5TL
