Mezza Luna, Cardiff: A Review
If anyone in Cardiff has a hankering for hummus (who doesn’t), I will send them straight to Mezza Luna. This Moroccan-Lebanese fusion restaurant, right on City Road, next to the New York Diner, serves some spectacular food, which you’ll still be dreaming about in your next lecture.
The restaurant itself is small, clean and prettily decorated, with traditional Lebanese music playing quietly in the background. The staff are friendly, and it has a very authentic feel, which seems odd in the centre of Cardiff but is refreshing.
Their drinks menu is varied, and the mocktails they serve are fantastic; I favour the mint one, as a compliment to spicy food. Yet it is the food itself which takes the biscuit. You have to start with the hummus, which comes with toasted flatbread - it’s incredible. Then for the main course, you can get delicious mezze combos which give you a taste of everything and don’t break the bank, especially if you share one with a friend: the platters are made for either two or three people.
If you fancy a single dish, then you can choose from a range of hot mezzes, Lebanese grills or Moroccan Tangines. The Duck Shawarma is amazing, as is the Kafta Tangine, and on Mondays, they make a vegetarian mezze for ‘Healthy Mondays’. All the food here is seriously delicious and worth trekking up City Road for.
You can even book a table with a live belly dance! It’s a great place to book for your slightly wacky mate’s birthday, or if you fancy a dinner and a dance with a difference.
Mezza Luna also accept student discount, so your meal won’t break the bank. For a trip to the East, and to satisfy your hummus cravings, Mezza Luna is the perfect place.
