The best places for cake addicts in London

Let’s face it - no-one does cake like London does. If you find yourself in the city and craving a sweet fix, head to one of the bakeries below to satisfy your sugary cravings.

With so many delicious bakeries to choose from, the only hard bit is deciding which one to go to first.

Peggy Porschen

This stylish bakery is an absolute must-see in London. Situated in Belgravia, the shop looks like something out of a fairytale with its gorgeous pink decor and floral displays. However, it’s not just a pretty face, with Vanity Fair stating that they do the best cupcakes in the world. This is a bold statement to make but one which I’m not surprised about, considering that everything is delicious and made by a very talented team. The Chocolate salted caramel cupcake, and the raspberry, rose, and lemon cake are particularly good.

Primrose Bakery

I love Primrose Bakery - keeping to old-fashioned methods and using the best well-sourced ingredients, their cakes really do have that homemade taste to them. With shops in Primrose Hill, Kensington and Covent Garden as well as five cookery books to their name, they know how to do cakes. Cupcakes include Chocolate Cheesecake, Snickers and Sticky Toffee and they also sell a range of layer cakes and loaves. With flavours such as Bischoff and Caramel, you’d be mad to miss out on these! The bakery has also made a range of Halloween-themed sweet treats so you can scare yourself while having a sugar rush.

Lola’s Cupcakes

The cakes at Lola’s are something special. Their cakes are freshly made and handcrafted; plus, their stores are dotted all over London, so chances are you’ll be near one wherever you go! Locations include King’s Cross station, Spitalfields Market, Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Victoria, Marylebone and even Topshop in Oxford Circus. Using the most delicious ingredients, Lola’s are best known for their cupcakes which come in a huge array of flavours and even include vegan, low sugar and wheat-free alternatives. I’d highly recommend the salted caramel - and the new seasonal flavours look great, including Vegan red velvet cookie dough, Coffee and walnut cookie dough and Blackberry and apple crumble.

Hummingbird Bakery

With bakeries in Islington, Soho, South Kensington, Notting Hill and Spitalfields, The Hummingbird Bakery is well known in London for its divine range of cupcakes and other sweet bakes. Walking into a Hummingbird Bakery store is like being in a pleasant dream - all cakes are freshly baked (each branch has its own kitchen), using the most delicious ingredients. Treats on offer include cupcakes, cheesecakes, brownies, layer cakes and pies. Their red velvet range is especially good - the red velvet whoopie pie is incredibly indulgent and so big that it will take a couple of attempts to finish.
