Suicide prevention in Manchester: Where to go and who to speak to
Going to university can be a stressful time. With drastic changes in your life, in some cases, your mental health can also shift with your surroundings. Whether you, a friend, a housemate, or a flatmate may be having suicidal thoughts, or showing signs that they may be suicidal, sometimes the most difficult aspect of getting help is finding the resource that works best for you. Regardless of what university you go to in Manchester, here is where you can go on your campus to get help.
Uni of Manchester
Counselling service appointments, available on the same day as booking, can be found if you fill out this questionnaire.
Group workshops can be found online, which are also accessible after filling out the previous questionnaire. The student support network is easily contactable via email: firstname.lastname@example.org, and phone: 0161 275 3033/3781
Open door, 20-minute counselling sessions are offered between 1-2pm in Business Room 1.13 (Monday to Friday), Brooks Building at Birley Room 1.38 (Friday only), Righton Building room 1.04 (Wednesday only), and Geoffrey Manton room G.13 (Tuesday only).
If you need advice on how to help a friend or urgently need a brief 10-minute slot, either call 0161 247 3493 or visit the counselling service at ten to the hour between 8:45 am and 4 pm to briefly speak to a counsellor. There are also a number of workshops to help with various aspects of mental health which can be found here.
University of Salford
If practical advice is needed, speak to a Wellbeing advisor. They are available for same day appointments (on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays only) and are easily contactable here.
If you would like to see one of their counsellors, complete this form. They aim to get back to you within three working days.
Alternatively, you can get advice at any AskUs advice desk, open every weekday, located in University House (9 am - 5 pm), MediaCityUK (9 am - 5 pm), Allerton Learning Space (Level 1) (Self-service facility). Or, alternatively, Clifford Whitworth library on Saturday (12 pm - 4 pm).
