How to pack the perfect case for travelling

We’ve all been through the stress of packing. You can’t find that jacket that you were SURE you packed, your travel money is nowhere to be found, and your shampoo has leaked everywhere. Travelling is suddenly not sounding so fun – but you can’t let bad packing ruin the whole trip, right? Luckily for you, we’ve gathered these top tips to ensure you can pack like a pro and save yourself a lot of time and stress.

Separate

Two words: packing cubes. They’re waterproof, they take up hardly any space, and they will keep your clothes and items in order. Need more convincing? Prices start at just £2 (on eBay) for these handy box-style separators, and they are invaluable. Separating underwear, toiletries and everything in between not only saves you time before you leave, but it'll also make life a hell of a lot easier once you’ve reached your destination.

Minimise

This word is your new motto. Taking toiletries? Hair products? Sunscreen? Invest in some mini versions of each – the cost is minimal, and the space and weight saved in your case will save you a lot of hassle. If you want to adopt this method you can even buy a mini toothbrush online (try eBay for the cheapest deals). The same applies for reading materials – you don’t need to splash out on a Kindle to reap its benefits, you can just download the app and make an account. Books are just a couple of pounds, but every day there are free books available to download and read on your phone or tablet.

Travel wallet

This doesn’t sound like a necessity until you’re fumbling around in your case trying to gather up your passport and currency, rooting through hoards of clothes and toiletries. At that moment, all you’ll wish for is a travel wallet. A little bigger than your standard purse, this baby has room for your passport, flight/train tickets, EHIC card, licences AND your money. It’s chock full of compartments so you can easily find what you need in the moment, and you can get them for as little as £1.99 on trusty eBay.

Lists

Any traveller – or even holiday-goer – will recommend this one. This is the closest to a failsafe way of not forgetting anything for the trip, and we all already know how to make one. Whether you’re putting pen to paper, or typing it out on your phone, this is probably the most important thing to do before a trip. Make columns for clothes, shoes, toiletries, valuables and the extra important stuff (money, passport, etc.) and get ticking away. It's even better if you have a friend to help you with this one – two heads are better than one, and it’s oh-so-easy to forget the small things (umbrella?!).
