In other words a second chance, a clean slate.
Guess how mine started? An incessant alarm going off at 5.30 in the morning- I don't think anyone hates an inanimate object as much as an alarm on a working day. Let's give thanks to that shred of self-restraint we find.
Then I dragged myself through the mundane things and there I was...back at school for the last January month there, for the last first new year, for the last second term. What a surreal yet haunting feeling.
I'd be lying to you if I told you I wasn't terrified- terrified for change, for less structure, for the unknown. But, I'm looking forward to all the good- closing this chapter of my life on a high, leaving behind a legacy. As well as studying what I love, bringing myself one step closer to my ambition, meeting my old friends in the U.K and making new ones. Here's to getting lost and finding myself.
It might sound philosophical but today has had all those highs and lows.
A lot of the first of this year will be my lasts- lasts of my past once I look back in September of 2018.
So do me a favour? No, do yourself a favour. Make this year count! I know every year we start out with "new year, new me" outlooks but end up amounting to little of what we sought out to do.
Let's change that streak.
Set yourself one goal. Whether it's something small like to smile more or something big like getting your first class honours degree. Believe in yourself because I sure do believe in you.
Don't let fear masked as practicality stop you from achieving what you want. Challenge yourself. This year, 2018, is YOUR year. Make the most of it.
Write down your new years goals/ resolutions down in the comments below, I'd love to hear them.
What is mine? To make a difference in whatever way I can.
Together let's leave behind a year full of marks on this world, more than our names on classroom desks. Let's do something worthy of who we truly are.
Here's to an amazing year everyone!
