Celebrating Oktoberfest in London: A guide
Oktoberfest may be a German holiday, but London never turns down a good party! With the biggest steins of beer, the best bratwurst and the most traditional lederhosen in the city, these are the hottest Oktoberfest celebrations in London.
Hackney, October 6
Taking over London Fields Brewery is none other than Hackney Oktoberfest. With DJ sets to give the Bavarian tradition a city edge, this is the event to pick if you’re a true East Londoner. With more beer than you can shake a stein at and with enough German street-food to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites, the party won’t be finishing early at Hackney Oktoberfest.
Erdinger, 5 - 22 October
If you find yourself in the Greenwich area, you’re in luck. Erdinger is building a humongous tent covered in the traditional colours of blue and white and plenty of Bavarian décor, as well as a full-blown funfair. If you decide to make an appearance, you’ll be far from alone – over 3,000 other Oktoberfest fans will be in attendance. The event is running until October 22, leaving you plenty of time to join the fun.
Pink Oktoberfest, 15 October
This one-day LGBTQ+ takeover is linked to the Erdinger event but will feature everything from drag queens in dirndls, to lip sync battles, karaoke and game shows. As always, there will be the staple Oktoberfest faves: bratwurst, steins of beer and traditional clothing and decorations. It’s arranged by the organisers of Winter Pride, so it’s guaranteed to be a great day.
Octoberfest Pub, Fulham
Fulham Road may not seem like a hotspot for some Oktoberfest fun, but this pub celebrates the holiday all year round. It’s not as extravagant as the annual events, but you can find plenty of beer steins, German food, oompah-bands and lederhosen here. It's the perfect choice for a more low-key Oktoberfest.
